A series of virtual sessions held via Zoom where catechists, with the support of parents, help youth understand and grow in six key aspects of Catholic Life. The six aspects of the structured curriculum are: Knowledge of the Faith, Sacraments & Liturgy, Living in the Christian Community, and Evangelization & Apostolic Life.
The Faith Formation program will be held virtually.
The OLVP Youth Faith Formation program support parents in their role as the primary catechists. The program provides, in a parish setting, a systematic presentation of the basics of our Catholic faith. The program is structured into four developmentally appropriate levels:
1. Church School for PreK through Kindergarten meet virtually Sundays at 9AM
2. Elementary School for grades 1 through 5 meet virtually Tuesdays at 5 PM
3. Middle School Level for grades 6 through 8 meet virtually Sundays at 6:30 PM
4. High School level for grades 9 through 12 meet virtually 2x a month on Sundays at 6:30 PM
Catechists are still needed for Church School, 1st Grade and 3rd Grade. Please contact Erin Clegg for more information at eclegg@olvp.org.
The OLVP Youth Faith Formation Program for the 2020-2021 Catechetical Year will be virtual-only sessions. This decision is a result of the Parish Faith Formation Committee’s review of:
1) Recent public health data
2) The ongoing policy guidance issued by the Archdiocese of Washington
3) Recent state and local governmental agency regulations
Our Catechetical team also surveyed parish catechists and parish faith formation families for their views and preferences. Our objective is to provide faith formation opportunities while maximizing the safety of our youth, catechists, and staff. During the upcoming fall session, we will continue to monitor the situation and make necessary adjustments as required. We hope to be both good Catholics and good citizens.
